hooyoosay

Hooyoosay: Come On Ep – No gimmicks, Soul throughout and Splendid Musicianship!

By Rick Jamm, JamSphere, December 2013.

Sometime in mid-year we reviewed hooyoosay, who we branded as a group that “dabble in the past and play with the future". They drag out covers and stir in some originals, all the time dipping into an immense baggage of rock 'n’ roll elements, dance rhythm essentials and party music rudiments. This is practically classic Pub rock dragged into the new century by its ears! Now Hooyoosay are back with a new single/EP and video. The EP follows on from the more pop orientated previous hooyoosay releases "Don’t You Lie To Me" and "Yooplaaa!". By their own admission these new tracks pick up the taste for rock and blues of their full-length “In dekay”. This time they are again revisiting some old Rolling Stones material – with "Come On" and "The Under Assistant West Coast Promotion Man".

The latter was originally recorded by the Stones for their 1965 album "Out Of Our Heads" and this version (Stones fans will be pleased to know) pays homage to the original and doesn’t stray too far away from the raw blues feel from the sixties. "Out Of Our Heads" itself consisted mostly of cover versions but "The Under Assistant West Coast Promotion Man" was their own composition albeit under the pseudonym of ‘Nanker Phelge’. "Come On" is a more well-known Chuck Berry track from 1961 that the Stones covered and released as their first ever single in 1963.

“Come On” is good clean audio, no gimmicks, soul throughout, splendid musicianship, unfussy production, terrific songs and hooyoosay on top form. This is just all grown up, warm, wonderful and acerbic music. Music like this just shows how shite commercial radio is.

Nearly fifty years have passed since these songs first hit the air, yet hooyoosay reproduce it with the same intensity of that youth gone by; only their playing is more relaxed and considered. Listening to this EP, you get a strong feeling that the musicians loved making it, as they did their previous releases. They keep the music polished and unfussy, and while the original influences are there, they never ever sound like being a copy of anyone.

Like almost all the hooyoosay material, this will transport you back to the great sixties sound – if you had the privilege of being there in the first place, you’ll really appreciate the sounds and atmosphere. If unfortunately you are too young to have been there, well then now’s your occasion to savor the swinging sixties!

hooyoosay also cross lines and borrow from 80’s new wave sounds and even go as far as the jangly pop-punk sounds of Green Day and Blink-182. Not only has this band released outstanding music, but their song choices showcase almost forgotten classics. Of course, what really matters is that hooyoosay always deliver an astonishingly vibrant and inspired collection of songs, as they have done here, yet again.

All I can say is that the world would be a far poorer place without the soaring sixties’ melodies and riffs, as authentically reproduced by hooyoosay!

hooyoosay is not your average rock and roll band: no faces, no names, no credits, no touring... just a handful of songs on iTunes and Amazon.

Or call it music with no ego.

The founding artists, all of them busy with other musical projects, once got together by way of a casual jam, celebrating their common fondness for rhythm and blues, rock 'n' roll, retro pop and the cultures of the past decades. There was no advance plan at all, but however the outcome of the session was an online distribution and the shaping of an accidental concept into a formula-based project. Since then many more have contributed, all firmly respecting the initial anonymity principle.

Discography:
- Album "In dekay", containing 22 tracks of guitar-pop, classic rock, blues, rhythm and blues, acoustic pop and rock 'n' roll remakes.
- Single-EP "My obsession / Pain in my heart".
- Single-EP "Don't you lie to me / Yooplaaa!".
- Single-EP "Come on / The under assistant West Coast promotion man".

Bethenny Frankel - I think I like this show

Bethenny Frankel is an American actress, television talk show host, author, and entrepreneur. A former natural foods chef, she is the founder of Skinnygirl Cocktails, the author of four self-help books, and the host of the TV talk show, Bethenny.

MEMPHIS TN (IFS) -- I never watched House Wives of anything or reality television of anything else either.  I was house cleaning, that I don't do enough of, and left the tv channel tuned to this "Bethenny TV Show".  Wasn't paying any attention to it at all.  My mind was like a dream, you know fazing in and out, and slowly picking up on conversations with Ice-Cube, the Rich Kids of Beverly Hills, etc., and then finally found myself putting the mop and broom down and getting into the television show.  I think I like this show.  Anyway, it's here on the FOX-TV channel.

Interview with Amy Barbera by Jessica Gilbert

Interview with Amy Barbera by Jessica Gilbert

Amy Barbera- Rainbow Butterfly
Inspirational
Singer-Songwriter
Jessica: Amy, it’s such a pleasure to have you in TSM. Thanks so much for doing an interview for the magazine.
Amy: I am so happy to be interviewing with you Jessica. It is so awesome how God brought us together. Thank you from my heart for featuring me in your wonderful magazine!
Jessica: What inspired you to get into music? And at what age did you start singing and writing songs?
Amy: Well, I have always known since I was a small child that I had a passion to sing. When I was in elementary school the school decided to put on a big talent show and I entered the contest! I dressed up in a cute little dress and used some fun props and performed the song “My Favorite Things” from the movie The Sound Of Music. I ended up winning the whole talent contest and that really boosted my self-esteem! I was a shy little girl at the time and did not have much self confidence so winning the contest really meant so much to me. In middle and high school I was in the choir, and in my early years of college I did some musical theatre and even got some small leads, but it wasn’t until I moved to Florida at the age of twenty one that I really decided to pursue music with my whole heart. In Florida I started singing as a praise and worship leader at a church called Living Word Fellowship Church and that is when God really revealed to me that my calling was to sing. The church music leader gave me solos every week and I started seriously training with many voice teachers at that time as well, so that is when I really started to grow as a singer and an artist! Around the age of twenty three is when my songwriting journey began and the Lord started putting original songs in my heart to write and record. In 1998 I recorded my very first original song titled “Flowers In My Garden” with a music producer named Tim Jack! Since then I have written and recorded over twenty original songs, and in 2008 I released my original thirteen song debut album Beautiful Flower of Life.

"gIvE mE a PoInT oN wHiCh tO sTaNd, AnD i WiLL mOvE tHe EaRtH"

These immortal words written by Archimedes are known today as the Archimedian Point. Hoping to personify this brilliant idea through music, the point hopes to instill positivity back into the community while staying socially aware and promoting global activism.

the members of the archimedian point aim to restore amiable experience back into existence via musical journeys with the public as the prime passenger. With the blending of styles and lyrical content that does more than s-p-e-l-l itself, the point might be able to awaken the sunshine slumbering in your soul......It all depends on YOU.........

The point released their debut album, ‘genre specific’ on June 6, 2009

"genre specific" is a most curious title for the debut 6-song CD by, the archimedian pOiNt, because within its rocking but accessible grooves are the kind of stylistic shifts that render such labels as metal, progressive rock, thrash, or post grunge simply inadequate. Yes, "genre specific" can boast tasteful and well-executed excursions into these more or less identifiable genres, but such exclamations are carried only in service of the song, and never as superfluous window dressing. Promoting an agenda of social consciousness and global awareness, songs like “Overdrive” & “Relic” rock with fierce - and classic hard rock (think Rush, Fugazzi, System of a Down) intensity, while the mix of acoustic guitar with sampled George W. Bush speechifyin’ in “Hubris” recalls nothing less than G’n’R-like grandeur. But in the languid lead vocal of “Nemesis Domesticus” an echo of Kurt Cobain gives way to the sonic charge of thundering guitar riffs that Led Zeppelin began perfecting four decades ago. All in all, the CD "genre specific" by, the archimedian pOiNt, is a very promising blast of rock bravado from an undersized behemoth (it’s a 2-man group) with hard rocking roots
